TV Commercial Spots Sell Out - Indie Style!

"In the past, a song on a commercial made you a sell-out, but now because the cool indie rock bands are doing it, it's opened it up for everyone,"

The basic idea is, more tv advertisements are using actual pop/rock/whatever music off of pre-existing CD's by both mainstream and indie artists as opposed to using original music that's just a glorified jingle. They say it boosts familiarity, reaches younger audiences, and packs an emotional punch. It also does a solid for indie artists featured because they suddennly enjoy loads of popularity if the commercial does well. It also makes me hate ads just a little less.
I still find it amusing that Chris Milk, a TV commercial and music video director, said the quote above. However, his words about fearing to look like a sellout are greatly diminished, being that he said it from his industry's get-together in SOUTHERN FRANCE.
Posh enough, Milk?

And yet, still I wonder...
What it would take to get Lesbian Pirates a spot on an ad?

Drunken Chefs

I love Iron Chef.

I also love booze.

Therefore, it's clear that I love the Iron Chef Drinking Game.

Satch and I just found our new pasttime.

Yadda yadda

I wanted to write something today. Honestly, I did. Something meaningful. Something profound.

It's a shame you'll just be getting more bullshit instead.*

Actually, topic of the day is Brillat-Savarin, the French epicure. He was brilliant, plus he had a great sense of humor.
When I first started cooking, I started with recipes. I learned how to cook recipes. Then I started studying the masterful art of Alton Brown and learned how to cook. And since then, I have started reading the works of Brillat-Savarin and learned why we cook. I recently read his The Physiology of Taste. His philosophies on food are practical, philosophical, witty, and refreshing. If nothing else, I suggest you glance at his aphorisms.
Go ahead, it won't hurt you.

*for those interested in less bullshitty stuff, I suggest reading my Lesbian Pirates post or my Anti-V-day post.

Lincoln, Meat, and Saints

I love weird art. I do.
And very little is as weird as Mark Ryden's work.
His impressive blend of cartoon and realism combines with a seemingly drug-induced surrealism to showcase a mind-boggling display of commentary on pop culture, religion, politics, and the human psyche.
It's just a lot of big words to say "Real freaky, but real good."

Go check it out.

Freud's Teddy Bear

Have you ever wanted to psycho-analyze mentally disturbed stuffed animals?
I know I have.
It's a fairly long game and it takes a minute or two to understand, but in the end, it's really really interesting.
The best part is, you can buy the animals afterwards.

Libertarian Love

Also- Jim Lecszynski does NOT represent me as a Libertarian. There are subtle differences between us. Such as the fact that I'm not an ignorant, insensitive douchebag.

Just wanted to clear that up.

Daily Love

Colin Powell on the Daily Show?

Both awkward and beautiful.

Goddammit, I LOVE Jon Stewart. Him getting good guests just makes my day.
